Morgan County Circuit and Superior Courts

Morgan County's primary trial courts are Morgan Circuit Court, Morgan Superior Court 1, Morgan Superior Court 2, Morgan Superior Court 3, and Morgan Magistrate Court. The county says its courts are courts of general jurisdiction and have four elected judges plus one magistrate appointed by the elected judges. Judges are elected to six-year terms, and the courts employ more than 40 people, including court reporters, bailiffs, probation officers, court administrators, and other staff.

All current court business is centered at the Morgan County Judicial Campus, 180 S Main St, Martinsville, Indiana 46151. Court hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with courts closed from noon to 1:00 p.m. for lunch. The historic courthouse on the square is a major local landmark, but the county pages identify the Judicial Campus as the current court address.

Morgan County Trial Court List

The court list should be read by case type. Circuit Court has juvenile and part of family and civil jurisdiction. Superior Courts 1 through 3 divide family, civil, and criminal work, while Superior Court 3 carries all small claims and evictions. The Magistrate hears matters at the discretion of the presiding judges.

Morgan County Circuit Court Records

Morgan Circuit Court handles all juvenile cases, CHINS, termination of parental rights, one-quarter family-law cases, and one-quarter civil cases. Morgan County Superior Court 1

Superior Court 1 carries a broad mix of family, civil, criminal, probate, adoption, mental-health, and tax-sale jurisdiction. It has one-quarter of family law, one-quarter of civil, one-third of criminal, one-half of estates and probate, and one-half of adoptions. It also hosts Morgan County's Mental Health Court and the local connection to the Veterans Court program.

Mental Health Court is a treatment-focused program, but the underlying case records may still have public and restricted parts.

Morgan County Superior Courts 2 and 3

Superior Court 2 has one-quarter family law, one-quarter civil, one-third criminal, one-half estates and probate, and one-half adoptions. That means probate and adoption assignments are shared with Superior Court 1 rather than sent to a standalone probate court. Adoption records are restricted, so a court assignment does not mean full public access.

Superior Court 3 has one-quarter family law, one-quarter civil, one-third criminal, and all small claims and evictions. Circuit and Superior vs Lower Courts

Indiana's Morgan County map has no county district court and no separate justice court. The meaningful local comparison is between Circuit and Superior Courts, the Morgan Magistrate, and Martinsville City Court. Morgan County Local Court Rules

Local rules matter for filing practice, scheduling, case assignment, attorney conduct, and court procedure that may not be obvious from a public docket. Morgan County Magistrate and City Court

The Magistrate Court page names Magistrate Judge Meagan Dial-McDonough and says the magistrate hears all cases at the discretion of the presiding judges. A magistrate assignment does not create a separate public records system. Search the case in MyCase and use the assigned court or clerk records staff for copies.

Martinsville City Court is different. Morgan County's own traffic topic says Traffic/City Court is not in the county courthouse and is not run by the county courts. City Court is at 59 S. Morgan County Specialty Programs

Superior Court 1 has two important program links in the official court pages. Mental Health Court serves eligible people with misdemeanor violations or referrals of low-level, non-violent felony cases, and participation is voluntary after screening. The Veterans Court Program is a Morgan County access point through a partnership with Monroe County Courts, with court held in Bloomington.

Morgan County Jury and Court Visits

Jury and visitor logistics affect court-record users who need to appear for a hearing, inspect a file, or pick up copies. The county jury service topic says all visitors pass through security, free parking is available, cell phones and personal data devices must be silenced in courtrooms, and no outside food or drinks are permitted in courtrooms. Morgan County Appeals and Federal Courts

Appeals from Morgan County trial-court judgments generally enter the Indiana appellate system, with the Indiana Court of Appeals serving as the intermediate appellate court unless a case goes directly to the Indiana Supreme Court by rule or statute. A notice, order, or appellate docket should be checked for the exact route.

Federal court is separate.
